Every item is an unique handwoven piece, one-of-a-kind, and is made with great love and attention to detail.Only natural ecological yarns of the highest quality are used. Natural yarns are biodegradable and therefore better for planet and earth.

The fabrics have rich and vibrant textures, that cannot be matched by a machine. The clean designs are timeless. The products that are easy to combine and last a long time. The longer you use the product, the more beautiful it becomes. 

In weaving, vertical threads (warp) are connected to horizontal threads (weft). Thread by thread, not only a fabric is created, but also a story. Sage means a handed down story. A story of a craft passed down for generations, an ode to the craft

Sage was founded by Marieke Wilhelmina Biemans. She was born into a textile family. Her mother and grandparents had their own textile business, grandfather was a tailor and other family members worked at Vlisco. The love of crafts and details was born at an early age. Marieke studied Economics at Utrecht University and worked for years as a Marketing Manager. Besides her work, she has always remained creative with goldsmithing, painting and various textile techniques. 

During her 1st pregnancy, Marieke gradually suffered from an inherited physical disability. Her back and neck muscles slowly functioned more and more sluggishly. A form of dystonia, a movement disorder in which the control to certain muscles does not function properly. Meanwhile, the dystonia has stagnated, but unfortunately it is not getting better either. A difficult period; learning to embrace imperfection. Marieke found support and distraction in weaving. She chose weaving because an interest in textiles has always been there, and because her partner is a furniture maker with whom a cooperation for the future is planned. And so a new passion was born. She was apprenticed to art weaver Sytze Roos in Amsterdam. In the years that followed, she further specialised in the craft. Marieke now has her own Atelier where she weaves on commission and works on expanding the collection.

With the products of Sage, we hope to make daily life more beautiful, and sustainable. Because often finding beauty in the details, perfect and imperfect, makes life valuable.
